Midwinter Scandi -- Saturday 22 December

We will hold our final Scandi music and dance event in Ketton in the midst of the darkness, on Saturday 22 December! Come and dance, play, sing, or just soak up the lovely atmosphere!

Tinwell Village Hall has been hired out for this special event, which will include an afternoon dance workshop, tune swap workshop, a communal meal, and an evening bal, with Swedish fika (cakes and coffee) -- and a visit from a long-standing Mummers Play! What more could we pack in?


But above all, we're expecting some truly amazing musicians: more details soon, but save the date! It'll be a great way to open the festive season.

Thanks to everyone who came to the workshop or the bal on Saturday! I hope everyone had as good a time as everyone I spoke to! I enjoyed the energy that came out of the mix of beginners and experienced dancers. And, of course, the wonderful music created by Fliss & Jarleth, and also our scratch-band: Ella Sprung, John-Francis Goodacre, Purple Dave Hart, and more than I can mention!

Thanks especially to all of these fine musicians, without whom it wouldn't be possible! Our final event of 2012 will be the Yule Scandi party with cakes. We still haven't finalised a date, but will do soon! It was a cracker last year, and should be again! Hope you can make it!

Yule Scandi - fixing a date

We're currently looking to set a date for this year's Yule Scandi dance. We'll have cakes and coffee (fika), fine company, music, merriment and dancing.  What more could you want?

Well, perhaps a fixed date...

So, currently we're looking at Saturday 15 December, but we might have to move it a week either way. If you have a strong opinion on the matter, do feel free to email us: ketton.scandi@gmail.com

Rørospols dance workshop on 6 October

The dance workshop on the afternoon of 6 October will be in Norwegian Rørospols, taught by Pat Lindop and me, Michael Cade-Stewart. Rørospols is a very popular dance in both Norway and Sweden. In Sweden (and England) it's often know as just "pols".

The dance is a fairly brisk polska-type dance, with a series of set moves that are usually danced in order (with no set timing for each move). It's varied and fun, and dancers are encouraged to introduce flourishes and variations once they've got the basics. We'll teach some of these in the workshop.

The workshop will be suitable for dancers of all abilities, and no partner needed. We recommend that you wear smooth-soled shoes that are comfortable to dance in, if possible.

October Scandi Dance

The first event of the new season will be on Saturday 6 October!

There'll be an afternoon dance workshop, a session, an evening Bal, and an affordable communal dinner. Oh, and free "indoor camping"; what more could you want?

The meal and the sleeping space will only be available to those who book before 1 October -- so email us at ketton.scandi@gmail.com, stating clearly what you want to attend (see below). Please also say if you would like a meal that is NOT vegetarian.
